Prof Jayant Kumar Routray bestowed with title of Professor Emeritus

Professor Jayant Kumar Routray has been bestowed with the title of Professor Emeritus. This was approved at the meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees held on 30 August 2018.

Prof. Routray joined AIT as Assistant Professor in June 1988, and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1993, and Professor in 2005. He has served as an AIT faculty member for 29 years, out of which he served as a Professor for about 12 years.

Dr. Attaphongse Taparugssanagorn promoted to the rank of Associate Professor

Dr. Attaphongse Taparugssanagorn of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Prior to his elevation, he was serving as Assistant Professor at AIT.

Dr. Attaphongse has joined AIT in August 2015 as Assistant Professor, and he is affiliated with the telecommunications program in the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at SET. Prior to joining AIT, he was serving as Researcher in the Wireless Information Security and Eco-Electronics Research Unit (WISRU) of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Thailand.

Dr Noppadol Phien-Wej promoted to the rank of Professor

Dr. Noppadol Phien-Wej has been promoted to the rank of Professor. His promotion was confirmed at the meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees held on 30 August 2018.

Dr. Noppadol joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as an Assistant Professor in May 1987, and he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1992. He is affiliated with Geotechnical and Earth Resources Engineering and Geosystem Exploration and Petroleum Geoengineering at AIT's School of Engineering and Technology (SET).

He obtained his Bachelor’s in Engineering in Civil Engineering from Chulalongkorn University in 1977, and his Master’s in Science and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A. in 1987 and 1981, respectively.

President Woon Unveils Six Strategic Focus Areas for AIT

In his inaugural address to the community, President Eden Y Woon unveiled his vision for the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as it moves beyond 60 years. “AIT needs to be a relevant, respected, global, and well-known technological and entrepreneurial institute serving Asia and the world,” President Woon told a packed house at AIT’s Robert B Banks Auditorium on 5 September 2018.

The maiden public speech for the AIT family after assuming the AIT Presidency on 1 September 2018 was an occasion for the President to share his strategic vision and introduce himself.

Dr. Thammarat Koottatep promoted to the rank of Professor

Dr. Thammarat Koottatep of AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) has been promoted to the rank of Professor.

His elevation was confirmed at the meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees held on 30 August 2018. Prior to his elevation, Dr. Thammarat was serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change in SERD.

Dr. Thammarat completed his Bachelor’s in Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Chiang Mai University, Thailand, in 1991, and his Master’s and Doctorate from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 1993 and 1999 respectively.

Dr. Matthew N. Dailey promoted to the rank of Professor

Dr. Matthew N. Dailey has been promoted to the rank of Professor. Prior to his elevation, Dr. Dailey, who is also Head, Department of Information and Communication Technologies at AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) was serving as Associate Professor in AIT.

His promotion was approved at the meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees held on 30 August 2018.

Dr. Dailey joined AITas an Assistant Professor in April 2006, and he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in March 2012.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) (Magna cum Laude) and Master of Science (M.S.) , in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, U.S.A. in 1992 and 1995 respectively.

Handing Over the Baton — from Prof Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai to Dr Eden Y Woon

Dr. Eden Y Woon is the new president of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). He assumed office on 1 September 2018.

A formal handing over of the baton of presidency was organized on 30 August 2018 at the Robert B Banks Auditorium in the presence of the members of the AIT Board of Trustees.

Students honored at Kurita Scholarship Award Ceremony

Recipients of the Kurita Scholarship 2018 Award were honored at an award ceremony organized at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 24 August 2018. Mr. Toshiyuki Nakai, President of the Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF) handed over award certificates to Divakar Thapaliya of Nepal, and Withanage Buddhima Sharmane Siriweera of Sri Lanka.
