Prof Joyashree Roy joins AIT as Bangabandhu Chair Professor

Prof. Joyashree Roy has joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as the Bangabandhu Chair Professor.

The Bangabandhu Chair on Sustainable Energy was formally inaugurated on 15 March 2018 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Bangladesh.

CSI Chair Professorship for Prof Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai

Computers and Structures Inc (CSI), world’s leading structural and earthquake engineering software developer, has proposed the establishment of a CSI Chair at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) for Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai. Mr. Ashraf Habibullah, CSI President and CEO, committed an annual fund of $30,000 for an initial period of two years, but perpetually renewable to support his future professional activities and research.

AIT student awarded with IPNI Scholar Award

AIT student Hayat Ullah has been awarded the 2017 International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) Scholar Award. Hayat Ullah received the award certificate from Dr.Thomas Oberthür, Director, IPNI (Southeast Asia Program) at a function organized at AIT on 9 August 2018.

Conferring the award, Dr. Thomas Oberthür complimented Hayat Ullah stating that the award is competitive as the submissions undergo a rigorous review and selection process.

Naoya Tsukamoto joins as Director, RRC.AP

Mr. Naoya Tsukamoto, has joined as the new Director of the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP) at AIT. He succeeds Mr. Osamu Mizuno, who has completed his tenure.

Mr. Tsukamoto obtained his B.Sc. at University of Tokyo, and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Maiden batch of Kurita Scholars return after internship

The first batch of three Kurita scholars, Ms. Oum Somaly, Mr. Raksmey Ang, and Nandana Hewawasage Sajith Madhawa Premarathna returned to AIT after their week-long internship with Kurita in Japan. This ia a part of the Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF) scholarship program, where KWEF has granted three full scholarships to students to pursue a Master’s degree program at AIT.

While Madhawa, who is from Sri Lanka, studies in Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM), Oum from Cambodia is pursuing her Master’s in Natural Resources Management.
