Symposium focuses on geotechnical aspects of new airport

This year Suvarnabhumi Airport will open. The successful construction of the Suvarnabhumi Airport is a triumph of new technologies and creative engineering. To celebrate this success, the Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society, in cooperation with the Engineering Institute of Thailand, is organizing the International Symposium on Geotechnical Aspects of the Second Bangkok International (Suvarnabhumi) Airport, to be held from 15 to 16 May 2006, Venus Room, Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.

Guest speakers bring views of the future to AIT

Two guest speakers brought non-traditional views of technology and business to AIT on Monday, 10 April 2006.

Hong Kong- born and American naturalized businesswoman Ms. Marilyn Tam and spiritual leader Her Holiness Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi, whose teachings are supported by a United States foundation known as Humanity in Unity, spoke on the future of business and on spirituality and technology.

Mekong region's wetlands, rural poor get boost from Sweden

H. E. Mr. Jonas Hafström, Swedish ambassador to Thailand, and AIT President Said Irandoust sign an agreement that funds the Wetlands Alliance Programme through December 2008.

The future of the wetlands and their inhabitants in the Mekong region appears brighter, after the 5 April 2006 signing of an agreement in which the government of Sweden will fund a program known as the Wetlands Alliance.

A new addition to the AIT Users section of the AIT Web page features downloadable PowerPoint presentations on various aspects of the institute.
Those in the AIT community preparing their own PowerPoint presentation are welcome to view the list of descriptions and download pertinent presentations, using the information from them as needed.

SOM dean speaks on Eastern perspective

Professor I.M. Pandey, dean of the School of Management, gave a talk on 'Cross-culture Leadership: The Eastern Perspective' at the 2006 International Business School Shanghai Conference, Antai College of Economics & Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University on 28 and 29 March 2006.

He emphasised the need for using management education in the East to develop enlightened minds for social change and sustainable development in addition to creating economic wealth.

AIT gets faster Internet access

Thanks to the falling prices of Internet capacity and to negotiations between ITServ and Internet service providers, the capacity of AIT connections to the non-academic Internet has been increased at a lower cost than before.

Songkran compensatory day changed to 19 April

The Human Resources Office has announced that Songkran holidays for AIT will be from 13 to 16 April 2006. The Thai government compensatory day set earlier on 17 April 2006 will be replaced by 19 April 2006 for the senate election.

Payroll slips go online

The Finance Office has introduced an electronic payroll slip available online. All AIT faculty and staff members can view and print their monthly payroll slips at
https://hris.ait.ac.th and then entering their usernames and passwords.

Trial access to UNESCO encyclopedia re-activated

UNESCO has re-activated a free trial access to Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems to be available to the AIT community until 4 April 2007.

The encyclopedia is an integrated compendium of 16 stand-alone encyclopedias in synergetic synthesis.
