Irandoust appoints new VPs

Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, recently announced the appointment of three new vice presidents (VPs). Appointed were as follows: Professor Peter Haddawy as VP for Education, Professor Sudip K. Rakshit as VP for Research and Professor Vilas Wuwongse and Professor Khin Ni Ni Thein as VP for External Relations.

The School of Environment, Resources and Development welcomes Dr. Binod B. Sandwar, from India as Visiting Lecturer in the Environmental Engineering and Management Field of Study.

Dr. Sandwar (right) received his Ph.D (Chemistry) from the L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga in 1997, and has served as Reader in Chemistry, Samastipur College, Samastipur (Bihar), India, since 1983. He also worked for nearly three years as In-charge of the Central Laboratory, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Patna (Bihar), India.

'Rebirth for Gaia: Ancient Call for the Modern Time', a performance presented by a pool of talented new students of the Urban Environmental Management Field of Study (UEM FoS) from the Asian Institute of Technology's School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) dominated the country group performance in the recently concluded AIT Welcome Show held at the AIT Conference Center (AITCC) on 17 September 2005. 6-8 December 2005: Third International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment

The University of Tokyo (UT) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), in
cooperation with Southeast Asian Center on Water Environment Technology
(SACWET), a joint center of UT and AIT, will hold the Third International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment, at the AIT Conference Centre, on 6-8 December 2005.

The purpose of this Symposium is to provide a forum for discussion and exchange among researchers/practitioners in Environmental Technology and Management and related areas from the Asian Region and to promote interaction among researchers from Asia-Pacific countries, Japan and other parts of the world.

The AITAA Research Grant is supplemental to available funds at AIT enabling students to go back to their home country to work on problems of national importance.

The AITAA will provide partial financial support to three students, one from three schools at AIT per year, to assist students in the above regards.
