AIT led subregional consultation workshop for integrated assessment of SDGs in Bangkok Metropolitan Region

November 16, 2021  – The subregional consultation workshop led by Professor Vilas Nitivattananon, Dean of School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), was organized today under the project entitled Integrated Assessment of SDGs using Earth Observation Technology for Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR).

The workshop was held virtually with more than 85 participants from 40 organizations attending the meeting.

Spring 2022 Orientation: AIT welcomes high number of students

January 10, 2022 -- The Spring 2022 semester at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) began with a virtual institute-wide orientation to warmly welcome a high number of new students joining from near and far. Even from the computer screen, it is clear how truly international and diverse the AIT community remains even international travels remain restricted due to the pandemic.

Since January of 2020, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis has spread across the world.  The situation in Thailand was very stable in the summer of 2020--with a minor outbreak in December of that year—and all the way through the early part of 2021.  Unfortunately, a fierce wave hit Thailand in April, but things are slowly improving, even as we battle the new Omicron variant.

PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) represented by Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, Executive Vice President, Sustainability, agreed to support THB 500,000 for scholarships and research in the Marine Plastics Abatement (MPA) program, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD).

GC is Thailand’s largest integrated petrochemical and refining business and a leading corporation in Asia-Pacific region.

Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited (AWN) Supports Five Master’s Scholarships

Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited (AWN), subsidiary of Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), has agreed to support five full Master’s scholarships in the amount of Thai Baht 5,000,000, (Thai Baht 1,000,000 per candidate per year) starting from the August 2022 intake to August 2026. The scholarships will be provided to AWN employees or AIT Thai students enrolled in any program in the School of Engineering & Technology (SET).  On 14th January 2022, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Ms. Saichon Submakudom, Head of Public Relations Department, Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited (AWN), and Dr. Eden Y. Woon, President of AIT.

AWN, founded in 2005, is licensed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to offer telecommunications services.

AIT Co-Hosted the 7th International Forum on Sustainable Future of Asia

January 20, 2022 – The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific of Asian Institute of Technology (RRC.AP - AIT) co-organized the 7th International Forum on Sustainable Future of Asia with partners in Japan for global participants to share knowledge and dialogue with global audience on “Research for Societal Transformation with Future Earth”. The Director of RRC.AP and AIT Vice President for Academic Affairs took part in the forum to highlight “healthy science” and ways to bridge the gap between science and society.

EPIC-N Collaborative Project between Tha Khlong Municipality and AIT

September 23, 2021 at the Thakhlong Municipality, where AIT is located in, a meeting was held between AIT and the Municipality officials led by Mr. Suthep Wongjang (the Municipality Mayor) on the ongoing collaborative project supported by the Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities - Network (EPIC-N). A 4-members AIT Team was warmly welcomed by the Mayor himself and his team.

Study on how small-scale farmers in Vietnam adapt to climate change won the Best Paper Award

A research paper by students and faculty members at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) won the Best Paper Award from the 10th Asian Society of Agricultural Economists (ASAE) International conference, held in Beijing on December 6 – 8, 2021. The paper investigates how rural small-scale farmers, who produce 90% of rice out of the Mekong Delta Region (MDR), adapt to climate change and offers policy recommendation to enhance rural livelihoods.

November 11, 2021 — The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) together with the Embassy of Finland in Bangkok, and Ministry of Industry (MoI) co-organized an online webinar on ‘Circular Economy Webinar Episode II: How to Deal with Non-Recycled Plastics?' where participants from important bodies of private sectors, university, and institutions were of the same opinion on managing non-recyclable plastics in accordance with their expertise.
