AIT and the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on May 20, 2004 signed an agreement on exploratory and development cooperation.

API Now Accepts Fellowships Applications

The Asian Public Intellectuals (API) Fellowship Program, Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University is now accepting API fellowships from various circles. Deadline of application is August 31, 2004.

API - funded by The Nippon Foundation - aims to enable fellows to pursue intellectual, cultural and professional projects in other participating Asian countries according to one of a three predetermined themes.

AIT, the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) (Women, Gender & Development Department), the Netherlands and the University of Leeds (UL) (Centre for Development Studies Department), UK held the International Conference on Gender, Development (GenDev) and Public Policy in an Era of Globalization on May 17 - 18, 2004 at the AIT Conference Center.

SCE Welcomes Visiting Faculty from University of Tokyo

Dr. Yoshitaka Kato (left) joined AIT's School of Civil Engineering on May 15, 2004. Seconded to AIT by the University of Tokyo, Dr. Kato will serve the Institute a 3-month tenure during which period he will be based at the Structural Engineering field of study while conducting researches under the Regional Network Office for Urban Safety, an academic center jointly run by the School of Civil Engineering, AIT and the International Center for Urban Safety Engineering (ICUS) under the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo (Japan).

Dr. Kato is on leave as Assistant Professor in ICUS. He completed his doctoral studies in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1999. His research interests are in the fields of concrete material and maintenance management, specifically in the areas of mass transport properties of hardened cement composites, deterioration mechanism of concrete, and the utilization of non-destructive inspection to evaluate concrete structures.
