On February 21, 2003, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand granted a Royal Audience to officials from the Royal Project Foundation, led by M.R. Sam Jamjaras Rajani and Dr. Pichai Nimityongskul, with Dr. Pichai's research team from SCE, to present nine patent certificates on vetiver grass development technology to His Majesty the King.

New French Ambassador visits AIT

On February 12, 2003, H.E. Mr. Laurent Aublin, newly designated French
Ambassador to Thailand, visited AIT. He met with Prof. Jean-Louis Ar,mand and the faculty and staff responsible for the various programs of the French cooperation for a presentation of French supported activities at AIT and their development in 2003. During a following reception, he met with the AIT administration and the faculty, staff and students involved in the programs of the French cooperation.

French Support to AIT in 2003

On Friday February 21, AIT, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Agency for Development (AFD) finalized a new cooperation agreement on French support to the Institute in 2003 for a total amount of 1,319,700 Euros (about THB 60,000,000). This amount marks a very significant increase on previous years and indicates a new impulsion in the long-standing cooperation between France and AIT.

This new development places an emphasis in the support granted to
engineering disciplines, particularly in 'Environmental Engineering and
Energy' and in 'Information and Communication Technologies' through
scholarships and the support to collaborations with French engineering
schools and universities through joint research projects, and faculty and
students exchange programs.

On February 20, the younger generation from Myanmar and other ASEAN countries had a chance to discuss and share their views through a video conference on 'Real-time ASEAN Interaction: IT Networking for Human Resources Development and Cooperation in ASEAN'. The Video Conference was conducted by the University of Computer Studies, Yangon (UCSY), Myanmar, in collaboration with AIT. The video conference was part of the ASEAN-Japan Exchange Year 2003, a project initiated by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan during his visit to Southeast Asian countries last January.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - AIT Workshop on Productivity, Technology and Poverty Reduction, was held at AIT on February 24-25, 2003.

The ADB-AIT Workshop aimed at informing their partners of the common goals in reducing poverty through increased productivity resulting from the use of technology for sustainable development, and the intention of ADB and AIT to work together to meet those goals.
