SERD Computer Laboratories
The SERD Computer Laboratories I and II in the Main SERD Building, comprising of 80 high-end
PCs connected to the campus-wide Ethernet and ATM Network, provide support to all students,
faculty and staff in their computer-aided courses, training and research.
New SERD Field of Study Coordinators
In accordance with the Institute Reform, effective January 2003, the academic structure of the
School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) will comprise of the Dean's office
and the 10 Fields of Study (FoS), listed below, which are responsible for, mainly, curriculum
development, research, training and sponsored project activities.
The Professor Wen-Jei Yang's Prize
The AIT community expresses its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Professor Wen-Jei Yang for his
generous donation of US$5,000 to establish the Professor Wen-Jei Yang Prize at AIT with the goal of
rewarding the best students graduating from the School of Civil Engineering and as an encouragement
to provide healthy and productive competition among the students.
Welcome Faculty
The School of Advanced Technologies is pleased to welcome Prof. Sambasiva Srinivasan,
currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.
Prof. Srinivasan is a Visiting Professor in the Microelectronics Program for a period of three months
from January 5 to April, 2003. He is seconded to AIT by the Government of India.
The 7th Executive Committee Meeting
The seventh Executive Committee meeting was held on September 12, 2002. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Viroj Phutrakul, Vice Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees and Chair designate of the Executive Committee.
Attending the meeting were: H.E. Mr. Jan Axel Nordlander, Ambassador of Sweden and Vice Chairman of the Board, Prof.

AIT Welcome Show
The AIT Student Union invites all AITians to attend the AIT Welcome Show on Friday, September 27 at the AIT Conference Center.
The event will start with a Couple Show by new students in national costumes from 6:45–8:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Country Performance from 8:30–11:00 p.m.

MS. PREMCHIT KALRA
Ms. Premchit Kalra joined the School on 19th August. She was appointed as Dean's Administrative Assistant (DAA). As DAA, Ms. Premchit is lodged with the responsibility to supervise and coordinate academic activities with Program Secretaries and the Database/Admissions Officer.
Doctoral Thesis Presentation
Mr. Kanatip Ratanachoo, EVD998512, a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Technical Science in the field of Environmental Toxicology, Technology and Management, Urban Environmental Engineering and Management Program, SERD will have his final examination on Tuesday, 24 September 2002 at 9:00 a.m. in R607, General Building, R607, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok
His dissertation is entitled 'The Detection of Environmental Toxicants by Dielectrophoresis'.
