On October 10, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. (CDG), Fraunhofer Institute Factory Operation and Automation (IFF), Department Logistics Systems Planning and Operation (LP), Germany, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), Thailand, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and the Thai-German Institute (TGI) to launch a project entitled 'Self Learning Program LIFE CYCLE BASED PLANT MANAGEMENT' or LCPM Project.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam is offering a number of scholarships to AIT Vietnamese students who are interested in continuing their doctoral studies.

Requirements:
Applicants are limited to lecturers at universities, scientists & technicians in national institutions, central laboratories and hi-tech centers and officers in national organizations and state-owned companies in the following fields of study:

Technology
Social sciences
Natural sciences
Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture
Economics
Management
Medicine and Pharmacy
Art (limited)

Qualifications:
Good ethical behavior
Expert in the field
Good health
Willing to return to Vietnam
Should be government officers or employees with long-term contracts in organizations listed above
At least two years experiences in the field of study, which is applied for
Should have at least one paper published on international journals or conference proceedings.

On October 11, 2002, the Distributed Education Center (DEC) of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted a one-hour Kids Party through Internet for students from Minami-Kanon Elementary School in Hiroshima, Japan, and a group of fifty students and teachers from Prachniwet School in Bangkok, Thailand.
