AIT signs MOU with Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan

AIT entered into a new era of partnership with the Government of Pakistan by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on December 17, 2002.

This is a historic event since the last MOU with the Government of Pakistan lapsed in December 1996, and much effort, dedication and hard work especially during the last one and a half years between the President's Office and the Pakistani Embassy in Bangkok, has culminated in the signing ceremony.

AIT's 96th Graduation Ceremony

On December 19, 2002, AIT?s 96th Graduation Ceremony to 191 students from 22 countries was held at the AIT Conference Center. Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President presided over the ceremony.

Among the 191 (21 doctoral and 170 master) graduates, 151 are from the School of Advanced Technologies, 24 from the School of Environment, Resources and Development, 8 from the School of Civil Engineering, and 8 from the School of Management.

Farewell Party for AIT Retirees

During this Christmas and New Year break, some AITians might be temporarily leaving AIT to their hometowns, their home countries or even travel around. In the same way, another 11 members of AIT Community have to leave AIT, but for good, as they retire from the Institute at the end of this year.

Visiting AIT

On December 11, 2002, Dong Sheng Cai, Tsukuba University; Mr. Kazuo Hara, Director, Satellite Communication, KDDI; and Mr. Sotaro Ito, Director, NASDA'S Bangkok Office Visited AIT.

During the visit a technical presentation and discussion on the Distance Education NASDA i-Space project under the collaboration of Tsukuba University, Multimedia University of Malaysia and AIT, was held in Room 210, TC Bldg.

Nobel Laureate Amartya Kumar Sen lectures on 'Empowerment and Poverty'

The Asian Institute of Technology on December 11, hosted a reception for a distinguisted guest, Professor Amartya Kumar Sen, Nobel Laureate in Economics. After the reception, Professor Sen gave a special lecture titled 'Empowerment and Poverty' to more than 600 participants who were interested in his work.
