'Ocean Color Remote Sensing and the Asian Marine Environment', an open
public lecture to be held on 11 December 2000, organized by Asian Center for
Research on Remote Sensing (ACRoRS) jointly with the National Space
Development Agency of Japan (NASDA), the International Ocean Color
Coordinating Group, and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific
(ESCAP), in conjunction with the Asian Ocean Remote Sensing Training
Course 2000 to be held from 11 to 15 December.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening of the
'Sustainable Community Tourism Destination Management' Conference on 27 November.

The international conference addressed the environmental, social and cultural impact of mass
tourism in Asian cities, while recognizing the role of urban areas in the high-growth travel and
tourism industry.

Presentation of RTG-HRD Phase II Scholarships

On November 27, Dr. Rung Kaewdang, Secretary-General of the Office of the National Education Commission (ONEC) and an AIT Trustee, presented scholarship certificates to recipients of the Royal Thai Government-Human Resources Development Phase II Scholarship Program (1999 batch) at ONEC. The Master's and Doctoral scholarships are worth Baht 21.36 million.

SCE and Petra Christian University sign agreement on dual program in Construction Management

On November 28, the School of Civil Engineering signed a contract
agreement with the Post-Graduate Program of the Petra Christian University
(Indonesia) on the implementation of the PETRA - AIT Dual Master's Degree
Program in Construction Management and Civil Engineering (PE-TRAIT).

Under this agreement, both institutions will jointly offer qualified
Indonesian engineers the opportunity to obtain a dual master's degree.

On 27 November, Mr. Christer Blomqvist, Senior Vice President,
International Relations, Sonera Group Plc., visited AIT and met with
Telecommunications Program faculty and Sonera scholars enrolled in the

AIT's already successful collaborations in Sri Lanka were further strengthened by a mission
led by Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President, who travelled to Colombo on 12-14
November 2000 to deliver the keynote address at a two-day workshop on 'Sustainable
Industrial Development through Cleaner Production', co-organized by the Ministry of
Forestry and Environment, Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and Industrial Development

Geotech Year 2000

Geotech Year 2000 held on 27-30 November centered around contributions from some 60 or so well-known experts in Geotechnical Engineering in the 21st Century. The conference was held in two parts. Part I was devoted to authors who have had long and distinguished careers in their fields of discipline, including those who have officially retired from their professions.
