AIT Honorary Degree conferred on
ADB President MR. TADAO CHINO;
189 graduates receive AIT degrees

Mr. Tadao Chino, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology at the 89th graduation ceremony on Friday, 18 August, in recognition of his role in the economic and social development of the Asia-Pacific region and his strategic vision in leading the ADB in the fight against poverty.

Mr. Bouaphanh, a Laotian national, obtained his Diplomagraringenieur
degree (Tropical Agriculture) from Karl-Marx University Leipzig, Germany
in 1987.
Thesis: Potentials and Constraints in the Development of Small-Scale
Aquaculture in Vientiane Province, Lao PDR.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn on 18 August graciously presented the 2000 Outstanding
Scientist Award to Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean of SERD, in recognition of
his outstanding research in environmental engineering, particularly in the use of natural systems
for water pollution control and waste recycling.

How to Start and Manage your Business

I have pleasure in announcing to the AIT community that, as part of the ongoing reform process, a workshop will be organized to familiarize AIT employees with the intricacies of running a small business, as earlier announced in the AIT Gazette, Issue #9 dated 8 August 2000.

A series of eight lectures will be delivered by SOM Faculty, led by Dr. Lalit M. Johri, with simultaneous Thai translation by Ms. Uthairat Muangsan, beginning Monday, 11 Sept at 2:15 p.m. in the RCC Auditorium.

AIT and the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T; Center) are jointly organizing a eTraining Program in Microelectronics and VLSI Technology from 21-24 Aug at Room ISE-106.

The training program will provide the participants with the latest knowledge in Microelectronics and VLSI Technology field.
