Special Lecture on “Sanitation Challenges and Opportunities in Asia”

About the Speaker: Dr. Atiur Rahman took the helm of the Central Bank of Bangladesh in 2009 as the 10th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the country's monetary policy authority, financial sector regulator and supervisor. Prior to his assumption of the office of the Governor, he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Dhaka, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shamunnay, a centre for excellence in development research in Bangladesh.

Unveiling the story of inclusive growth in Bangladesh

Bangladesh represents a unique example of inclusive banking, where the underprivileged are able to open bank accounts for as little as 10 taka (12 cents). Moreover, 80 percent of the rickshaw pullers in the capital city of Dhaka use mobile financial services. Mobile financial services cross USD 1 billion every month, and in January 2015 it touched $ 1.2 billion. Unraveling the success story of Bangladesh was Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank, at a lecture delivered at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 16 February 2015.

Talk on “Development and Innovation Challenges in Asia: Role of Knowledge Institutions”

Dr. Bindu N Lohani, Vice-President (Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development), Asian Development Bank (ADB), will deliver a talk on “Development and Innovation Challenges in Asia: Role of Knowledge Institutions” at the Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium from 13:00-14:15 hours on 25 February 2015. An AIT alumnus, Dr. Lohani has served as Chairman and Associate Professor of the Division of Environmental Engineering at AIT, prior to joining the ADB. Dr. Lohani is a current member of the AIT Board of Trustees.

AIT Career Fair and Research Exhibition

The AIT Career Fair will be organized on 1 April 2015 from 0900-1700 hours at the AIT Conference Center. The day-long event will provide an opportunity to students to interact with various employers.An AIT Student Union “Research Exhibition” will also be held the same day where students will showcase their prototypes and present their posters.

“AIT’s ADB-JSP scholarship program is one of the most successful schemes”: ADB team

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is among the most successful scholarship schemes, and the program will continue to offer scholarships to students. These were the sentiments expressed by Mr. Tatsuya Kanai, Senior Advisor, Office of Cofinancing Operations, ADB during this visit to AIT on 4 February 2015.
