APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR THANH AS ADVISOR TO THE PRESIDENT

The President in consultation with and endorsement by PEC members has appointed Professor NGUYEN CONG THANH as Advisor to the President, effective immediately.

Professor Thanh is currently a full-time Visiting Professor in the Urban Environmental Engineering and Management (UEEM) Program, School of Environment, Resources and Development. He is currently co-teaching courses in Industrial Wastewater Pollution and Control, Environmental Quality Management, and Environmental Impact Assessment. Prof. Thanh is also leading the Environment and Resources Management Group (ERMG) in the UEEM Program.

Professor Thanh joined the then Division of Environmental Engineering of Technology, AIT, as an Assistant Professor (1973-1975), becoming Associate Professor (1976-1981) and Professor (1982-1985). He chaired the Environmental Engineering Division for six years (1976-1983). Dr. Thanh became Director of the Asia Division at the International Training Center for Water Resources Management (CEFIGRE), based in Sophia Antipolis, France (1985-1991). He was responsible for the development of training strategies and programs, organization of training courses and international conferences for Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

From 1991 to 1998, Dr. Thanh was responsible for the management of a professional consulting firm specializing in the environmental field and providing expertise in environmental sector review and planning, as well as project assessment and development, with particular emphasis on work in the region. Dr. Thanh's international experience includes projects in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines and Nepal. He worked as a staff consultant for the Asian Development Bank from 1992-1993, working with a team that prepared the Vietnam Environmental Sector Study.

WORKING GROUP ON ROYAL THAI GOVERNMENT (RTG) SUPPORT TO AIT

The President has formed an AIT Internal Working Group comprising of Professor Samorn Muttamara (Chair), Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Professor Chongrak Polprasert and Ms. Tasanee Sahawat (Secretary) to advise him on matters related to the Royal Thai Government (RTG) support to AIT.

REASSIGNMENT OF DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

In line with the President's Report to the January 2000 meetings of the Board of Trustees, the President wishes to see the full devolution of marketing to the Schools. The details of the implementation including that of the Resource Intelligence Cells (RICE) will need to be further worked out. In the meantime, the following Development Officers will be directly under the President's Office responsible for coordinating the following:

Ms. Tongta Temboonkiat, External Relations
(in charge of coordinating all official visitors programs to AIT involving the President)

Ms. Kanya Worawichawong, Industrial Relations and Foundations
