Republic of Bangladesh has become the seventh country to ratify the new AIT Charter. The AIT Charter was ratified at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Bangladesh held at the capital city of Dacca on 2 January 2012. The meeting of the Bangladesh Council of Ministers was chaired by H.E. Sheikh Hasina.
The cabinet of the Royal Thai Government has approved the (new) Charter of Asian Institute of Technology. It has also approved the Draft Negotiation Framework of the Headquarters Agreement between the Thai Government and Asian Institute of Technology. The cabinet approved it in its meeting held on 27 December 2011 and has endorsed the submission of the Charter and Draft Negotiation Framework for parliamentary review and approval.
Besides, the Thai cabinet has also authorized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to proceed with the ratification of the Charter, following which the new Asian Institute of Technology Enabling Act will come into force.
A first of its kind Dengue Epidemic Prevention, Control and Management Program (DEPCAM) organized by the Asian Institute of Technology Extension for 117 participants from Pakistan’s Punjab concluded at Bangkok on 23 December 2011. The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is strengthening the dragon fruit value chain for export market in Vietnam. Ten officials from the Plant Protection Department (PPD), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnam, drawn from five provinces recently attended a regional initiative coordinated by AIT.
A new waste recovery project involving four countries in South-East Asia has been launched with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) assuming the role of the lead partner. The four countries – Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Vietnam, all from the Mekong region, are engaged in an international partnership to work towards zero waste, zero landfill and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
A gathering of over 30 alumni of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) from Thailand visited the AIT campus and recommended that it is a good opportunity to rebuild the AIT campus. The mother campus of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has been officially declared as “fully dry.†The water level in the entire campus is now at normal level. Power has also been restored at two sub-stations, namely at the AIT Main gate house and New Zealand house village (Substation 1), and the Pump House and golf course (Substation 13).
