On the afternoon of Tuesday, 18 October 2011, AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust was interviewed live via telephone on the television show ASEAN Business Report, ASEAN TV. During the 5-minute interview, Prof. Irandoust provided an update of the flood’s impact at the AIT campus, the Institute’s coordinated flood prevention efforts with neighbors Thammasat University and NSTDA, and comments on the overall situation of flooding in Thailand.

Volunteers from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have been actively lending their support at the relief camp established at Thammasat University. Beginning Monday, students and AIT employees have been offering their services to the flood evacuees, most of who are from Ayutthaya.
Nobel laureate and Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Prof. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri has stressed the need for carbon pricing to tackle climate change. Prof. Pachauri also stated that IPCC’s Fifth Assessment (AR5) will be finalized by October 2014. The new report will be more detailed and shall include geoengineering options; susceptibility and equity; clouds, aerosols and its effects; besides a greater emphasis on socioeconomic implications of climate change.
A new partnership with the Université de La Réunion, and ongoing cooperation with CIRAD situated on the French territory of Reunion Island, has positioned AIT at the heart of high-end research and academic hubs and networks in the Indian Ocean region, and connects the institute ever closer to France and Africa.
Thailand’s TEAM Group of Companies Co., Ltd. has signed an agreement with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to launch a student internship program. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on 7 October 2011 will enable qualified AIT students to work as student-trainees of TEAM Group.
Agricultural and construction equipment major John Deere has tied up with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). A formal agreement was signed on 6 October 2011 where the two decided to cooperate in farm machinery testing, besides research and development.
Fun and frolic marked the Mini-Sports Day organized by the AIT Student Union on 30 September 2011 as the AIT President’s XI defeated the AIT Student Union XI in a football match by three goals to nil. Among the goal scorers was the AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust.
A delegation of Institute de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) has demonstrated interest in exploring partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Led by Dr. Robert Arfi, Director of the Scientific Department “Living Resources and Environment”, IRD; the delegation comprised of country representatives of IRD in Laos, Indonesia, Vietnam and the IRD Asia Regional Coordinator in Thailand.
