APWF holds knowledge hub workshop at AIT

Asia Pacific Water Forum (APWF) held its pre-launch workshop of the launch of the “Regional Water Knowledge Hub for Groundwater Management” at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 1 June 2011. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Yatsuka Kataoka of the Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES), stated that the APWF knowledge hub is a major initiative of knowledge sharing and capacity development.

East Japan Great Earthquake and Tsunami: Lessons Revealed by Prof. Shunji Murai

At 2:46 pm on 11 March 2011 a monumental 9.0 magnitude earthquake shook Japan to its core and reverberated all around the world. The temblor with its epicenter located off the northeastern coast of the country in the Pacific Ocean was the fourth strongest in recorded history. The earthquake caused death and damage in metropolitan Tokyo 250 kilometers to the south and was felt across the entire country. It also generated a massive tsunami that inundated long stretches of Japan’s coastal areas, causing catastrophic physical damage and huge loss of life.

AIT alumnus becomes Professor at KMUTT

Dr. Shabbir H. Gheewala, an AIT alumnus, has recently been appointed Professor at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand. Dr. Shabbir completed his Master’s and Doctorate under the Environmental Engineering Management (EEM) Program in AIT in 1995 and 2001 respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Ajit Padmakar Annachhatre.
