Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is a good platform for providing training facilities in the field of disaster management. This was the view expressed by Mr. K.S.Prabhakar, Secretary, Disaster Management, Government of Karnataka, India, during the inaugural function of the training course on “Geospatial Technology for Flood Mitigation” organized for Indian government officials on 23 May 2011.

Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Seiji Kojima felicitated seven AIT Japanese scholarship recipients at a dinner hosted at his residence to celebrate their graduation on 19 May 2011. H.E. Mr. Kojima congratulated the graduating students, and highlighted the importance of AIT as a development partner in promoting sustainable development in the region through higher education.

Mr. Rungrot Kitsomboonloha, an AIT graduate of microelectronics, School of Engineering and Technology (MEng, 2007) who is currently studying for his doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley, U.S.A., has won a pre-doctoral prize for being at the top of his class in academics.

AIT and CSR Asia on May 19 jointly announced the launch of a new, flexible executive-style Professional Master’s Degree program in Corporate Social Responsibility (MCSR).

Cutting edge research and cinematography coalesced at V.Research, AIT’s Annual Video Research Competition as 11 teams vied for top honors. Enthusiastic students keen to showcase their research employed a wide variety of tools to produce informative, creative and entertaining videos, which kept the audience spell-bound for over two hours at the AIT auditorium on 19 May 2011.

Volunteers and team members of Télécoms Sans Frontière (TSF) were honored at a special event organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Chairman, Board of Trustees, AIT and Former Foreign Minister of Thailand, H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag hosted a lunch for AIT’s volunteers to TSF and other TSF team members on 19 May 2011.

Ten senior officials from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) this week began a highly specialized four-week training program on integrated watershed management and reforestation at the Asian Institute of Technology.

A major new global initiative, IPLA, launched by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) to aid local governments in managing growing waste problems, was announced at UN-Headquarters in New York on 13 May 2010.

A new look AIT Management Team, which held its first meeting on 16 May 2011, pledged to work towards ensuring greater success and continuing glory of AIT. The new AIT Management Team, which comprises of the three Vice Presidents and the three Deans, apart from the AIT President, is a slimmer body and is empowered with greater decision making powers.

A delegation from Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD) visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) seeking to strengthen cooperation between the two. On his first visit to AIT, Dr. Robert Habib, Scientific Director, Performance of Tropical Production and Processing Systems (PTPPS), CIRAD said they were keen to identify areas of common interest and new fields of collaboration.
