Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 7 February 2011 with India’s Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) for strengthening partnership and possible long-term collaboration.

Nanotechnology will impact society in profound ways and alter the way people live. From cosmetics to sportswear, healthcare to fashion, and agriculture to green technologies, almost anything and everything in our world has the potential to be touched to some degree by the emerging applications of nanotechnology.

A nail biting sudden death winning shot helped AIT President’s team win the football match against the AIT Student Union team on 31 January 2011. Tied 2-2 at the end of the game, the match was decided with a penalty shootout which was won by the President’s team by two goals to one.

United Group of Institutions (UGI) has proposed short term student and faculty visits to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Student exchange programs will include undergraduate and graduate students from engineering as well as management streams.

The first Regional Workshop on the ASEAN Roadmap for the Attainment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) organized on 24-25 January 2011 in Bangkok, concluded with progress made towards realizing the MDGs for ASEAN by 2015 through a new roadmap, an AIT official said.

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) considers Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to be a very strong partner in terms of space technology related work and would continue its collaboration. This was stated by Dr. Masanori Homma, Executive Director, JAXA during a visit to AIT on 26 January 2011.

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) President Prof. Said Irandoust met His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Zillur Rahman, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh during his recent visit to Bangladesh. The President met him during the second convocation ceremony of Eastern University.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) can avail of opportunities to participate in global-level professional development in communications and marketing, alumni relations and advancement services, the Executive Director Asia-Pacific for The Council of Advancement and Support Education (CASE), Ms. Chua Beng Hwee, told senior AIT officials this week.

Prof. Ram Manohar Shrestha will be honored with emeritus professorship at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The conferment of this award was approved by the Board of Trustees of AIT at its meeting on 20 January 2011. The formal conferment of the Professor Emeritus award will be made during the May 2011 graduation ceremony.
