Visit of Deputy Director Syarif, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia

On 24 July 2008, Mr. Sulaiman Syarif, Deputy Director for
Trade, Economic Services, Finance & Investment and Environment
Treaties Affairs, Directorate & Legal and Treaties, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia, accompanied by Mrs. Tanti
Widyastuti, Minister Counselor (Social & Culture) and Mr.
Dionnisius Elvan Swasono, Third Secretary (Information) from the
Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok paid a courtesy visit to the
institute.

AIT co-sponsors Map Asia 2008

 

"Map Asia 2008" is an annual Asian conference and exhibition
on geospatial information, technology and applications. On its
seventh year, the conference will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 18
- 20 August, 2008 with GIS Development as the organizing
committee.

Cross Cultural Learning Camp on campus

Sponsored by the Royal Thai Government Coordination Office and in
cooperation with the AIT Student Union, a Cross Cultural Learning Camp
will be held at the Asian Institute of Technology on 1 - 3 August
2008.

This activity will involve over 50 undergraduate Thai students
from approximately 10 neighboring Thai universities.

Filipino Senator Legarda at AIT

Leading Republic of the Philippines Senator Loren Legarda visited the
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on July 22nd to discuss the
possibility of future collaboration between the Thailand-based
institute and relevant government agencies and universities in the
Philippines.

AIT congratulates its Board Chairman Dr. Tej Bunnag on appointment as Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) extends its sincerest
congratulations to H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of the AIT Board of
Trustees, on his recent appointment as Thailand’s Minister of Foreign
Affairs. 

This past weekend H.E. Dr. Tej was sworn in as foreign minister with
immediate effect by His Majesty the King who issued a royal command on
Saturday July 26. His Majesty the King then gave his good wishes
to the new foreign minister at an oath-swearing ceremony at Klai
Kangwon Palace, Hua Hin, on Sunday.

AIT delegation visits Vietnam

On 17-18 July 2008, a delegation from the Asian Institute of
Technology (AIT) traveled to Vietnam to explore possible collaborations
and visit the AIT Center located in Hanoi.

President Said Irandoust and Professor Vilas Wuwongse, Vice
President for External Relations and Interim Director of the AIT
Center in Vietnam, had discussions with the decision makers from
the following ministries, institutes and universities:

Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment
Vietnam National University
Ministry of Science and Technology
AIT Center in Vietnam
Vietnam International Education Development
(VIED)

Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment
(IMH)

The AIT delegation discussed the possibility of joint Ph.D.
programs with joint supervision in the field of water resources,
climate change and coastal zone management among others.
