UNEP.RRC.AP 10th Annual Advisory Committee Meeting

On 6 November 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust participated in the 10th Annual Advisory Committee Meeting of the UNEP Regional Resource Center for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP), chaired by Professor Nay Htun, who is a former AIT faculty member and previously held very high-level positions in UNDP, UNEP, having also served as UN Assistant Secretary General.

AIT-Mahidol University, Chulabhorn Research Institute triangular collaboration

On 8 November 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust, along with faculty colleague Dr. Preeda Parkpian, from School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) visited the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) to discuss the second phase (the first phase was during 1999-2005) of the collaboration between AIT, CRI and Mahidol University on the Postgraduate Education in Environmental Toxicology, Technology and Management.

Energy Cost Savings Proposal through Efficient Fluorescent Lamps

Dr. B. Mohanty, Visiting Faculty in the Energy field of study, recently brought to AIT's attention the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's recently launched initiative to reduce 10 million tons of CO2 emission by the dissemination of 10 million T5 fluorescent lamps and 30 million CFLs. Dr. Mohanty helped coordinate and took part in a meeting with the Assistant Governor EGAT, along with Dr. H.L. Tien, Head Infrastructure, following which AIT has made a formal submission, expressing interest in participating in the program, under which EGAT would finance the retrofitting of the lamps.

AIT President discusses ongoing and planned initiatives with ADPC

On 8 November 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust met with Dr. Luis Jorge Perez-Calderon, Deputy Executive Director of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), discussing several of the ongoing and planned initiatives between AIT and ADPC, which includes the installation of the tsunami early warning system at the AIT campus and running a master's program in disaster management in partnership with AIT. As hosts of ADPC, and considering its close proximity, President Irandoust encourages AIT to consider ways in which we could actively further use our combined strengths in a more synergistic manner.

Asian Regional Research Programme on Environmental Technology (ARRPET) conducts major three-day workshop at AIT

In recent times in Asia, population growth, industrialization and urbanization have brought many environmental issues to the forefront of regional consciousness. In view of the growing concern about environmental degradation across the continent, the Asian Regional Research Programme on Environmental Technology (ARRPET) was initiated in 1998 to conduct a major study to assess these issues through working groups, each tackling specific problems through highly structured research.

AIT and Chulalongkorn University plan to collaborate in international unified bachelor’s and master’s program in architecture and technology
