Inaugural Meeting of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Board

On 1 November 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust took part in the inaugural meeting of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Board, under the chairmanship of distinguished AIT alumnus, Dr. Tongchat Hongladarom, who is also a member of the AIT Board of Trustees and serves as Chairman of the University Council, King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi.

Newly elected Faculty Representatives

At the Academic Senate held on 31 October 2007 it was announced that Professor Jayant K. Routray was elected as AIT Faculty Representative along with the other representatives, namely Professor Kazi M. Ahmed, Dr. Oleg Shipin, Dr. Manukid Parnichkun, Dr. Sylvain Perret and Dr. Amararatne Yakupitiyage.

Evening of Iranian Music

An evening of Iranian music was held on the November 5th at AIT, which was jointly organized by the AIT-Golden Jubilee Fundraising campaign and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Thailand. The performance was by the “Dang Shoo Band”, which is regarded as a top-rated band in Iran.

Recognition of Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Students

Congratulations to Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar, Associate Dean for Promotion, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), who received an invitation from Professor Teresa Zeilinska from the Warsaw University of Technology, which is a member of the European Master on Advanced Robotics (EMARO) Erasmus Mundus consortium, for AIT to be one of their partners.

Partnership with Ching Shiu University, Taiwan

AIT President Said Irandoust on 30 October 2007 met with Professor Chongrak Polprasert and Dr. Kim Oanh and was briefed on their recent visit to Ching Shiu University, Taiwan to discuss cooperation on dioxin analysis. Dioxin analysis is a part of the activities within the AIT-SINTEF  “Hazardous Chemical Management”, which involves Thailand and Vietnam.

Partners Consultation Meeting on Strategic Proposal Development for Extension of the SEA-UEMA Project

AIT President Said Irandoust on 29 October 2007 took part in the “Partners Consultation Meeting on Strategic Proposal Development for Extension of the Southeast Asia-Urban Environmental Management Applications Project (SEA-UEMA)”. The meeting was attended by 31 of AIT's key partner representatives and also the Project Officer from the Canadian Embassy.

Progress on New AIT Charter

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand sent an official communication on 30 October 2007 to all of AIT's partners currently on the Board, inviting further responses on the Board approved new AIT Charter. The Ministry will subsequently convene a meeting on 17 December 2007 to formally adopt the Charter, to which current partner countries and international entities, as well as new and prospective members, currently not on the Board, will also be invited to take part.

MPSC signs MoU with AIT

The Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) signs a Memorandum of  Understanding with AIT on 29 October. The MoU was signed between
Dr. Ricardo Rotoras (above, second from left), Rector of MPSC and Prof. Said Irandoust (right), AIT President.

The MoU enables cooperation between AIT and MPSC for academic areas of mutual interests and to work together in human resources development and capacity building.
