AIT VP-DR visits Sri Lanka and United States

Through the invitation of the Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Areas Development of Sri Lanka, Vice President Khin Ni Ni Thien visited Sri Lanka from 25-30 August 2007. The vice president had an opportunity to have an audience with the President and the First Lady and exchanged goodwill gifts with the Prime Minister.

President in Japan: ASTF officially recognizes AIT as ‘Regional Institute’

President speaks at 4th Science and Technology in Society Forum in Kyoto, lectures at 3rd Asian Science and Technology Forum (ASTF) in Tokyo

 
 

AIT President Said Irandoust was a recent speaker at the 4th Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society Forum (STS Forum) held in Kyoto, Japan, from 7-9 October 2007. The president’s participation at this event came at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Koji Omi, Founder and Chairman of the STS Forum, and former Minister of Finance of Japan.

New Regional Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia regions  

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) have launched a partnership agreement for the development and implementation of a Regional Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia regions.

SVOA Authorized Service Center, and SCIB Field Office open in AIT arcade

To provide technical support and customer service assistance to their client base on- campus, SVOA Pub. Co. Ltd., supplier of computer laptops to AIT students and staff under partnership with AIT, has opened an authorized service center at the Arcade, Room C138. The SVOA Service Center sells and repairs personal computers, laptops, printers, cameras, scanners and computer accessories.

AIT President attends RIS 50th Anniversary Celebrations

AIT President Said Irandoust recently took part in the Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner commemorating the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of Ruamrudee International School (RIS), held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok on Saturday, 29 September 2007. AIT has recently entered into an historic partnership with RIS that covers four main areas of cooperation: academic programs, staff development, curriculum development, and cultural and sports activities.

Academic Senate Meeting

AIT President Said Irandoust took part in the Academic Senate held on 26 September 2007. In an open and collegial manner, Senate members debated and discussed the role of the Academic Development and Review Committee (ADRC) versus the Institute Education Council (IEC). The revised policy on "Repetition of Courses" for the benefit of students was approved by the Senate and will take effect from the January 2008 semester.

Inaugural Meeting of the SERD Board

AIT President Said Irandoust on 26 September 2007, attended the first School Board meeting of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), organized by SERD Dean S. Kumar. Also participating at the meeting were external Board members consisting of distinguished AIT alumnus Dr. Subin Pinkayan (Chairman, Seatec Consulting Engineers), Dr. Anders Granlund (Counsellor, Sida Regional Advisor on Environment), and Ms. Thelma Kay (Director, Emerging Social Issues Division, UNESCAP).

 

During the meeting, the President Irandoust informed the members of the current status of AIT's Charter and the central role of SERD in AIT's mission.
