MOU promises more dynamic collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Total Exploration and Production Thailand (TEPT), Total Professors Associations (TPA) and AIT at the Offshore Technology and Management (OTM) Open House Day held on 20 February 2007 to renew the MoU to strengthen the educational collaboration among three partners.

On 31 August 2007, AIT President Said Irandout along with Professor S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment Resources and Development, Dr. H.L. Tien, Head, Infrastructure, met with Mr. Surendra Shrestha, UNEP Regional Resource Center for Asia-Pacific (RRC.AP) Director, and Ms. May Bernardo from United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to discuss the progress on the Carbon Neutral initiative planned for the Outreach Building.

ASEAN Scholarship Scheme endorsed on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development

The establishment of an ASEAN Scholarship Scheme on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development (EE/ESD) was recently endorsed by ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN), at their 18th Meeting held in the Philippines from 6-8 August 2007.

The scheme was initiated and supported for development by Professor Mario T. Tabucanon, former AIT Acting President, who was actively involved in the formulation of the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plan (AEEAP) for 2006-2010 which includes, among others, capacity building of institutions in the ASEAN region.

On 30 August 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust attended the celebrations of Vietnam's 62nd National Day at the Grand Hall, Plaza Athenee Hotel, Bangkok at the invitation of Ambassador Nguyen Duy Hung. AIT faculty, staff members, and representatives of Vietnamese Student Association and Vietnamese students studying and conducting research at AIT, also joined the celebration.

Professor D. T. Bergado returns from sabbatical

AIT welcomes back Professor D. T. Bergado, who has completed his sabbatical as Visiting Professor at the Institute of Lowland Technology, Saga University, Japan.

Professor Bergado has been very active during his sabbatical, participating in the graduate research projects related to geo-environmental problems in the Ariake Bay Tidal Flat Mud Deposits.
