AIT and ADPC agree to set up a joint steering committee

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and AIT agreed to set up a joint steering committee, similar to that in place between AIT and UNEP.RRC.AP. The agreement was reached during a 3 May meeting with Dr. Bhichit Rattakul, ADPC Executive Director; Mr. Boon Tiong Tay (Director, Finance and Project Manager, UNDP Early Warning System and Preparedness Project); Mr. Oliver Fall (Executive Coordinator, Office of the Executive Director); and the AIT administration including AIT President Said Irandoust and Prof.

University of South Africa to partner AIT in the AIT-Africa Initiative

Professor N. Barney Pityana, Principal and Vice Chancellor of University of South Africa (UNISA), expressed keen interest in partnering AIT in the AIT-Africa Initiative, following a breakfast meeting with AIT President Said Irandoust on 5 May 2007.

The UNISA Vice Chancellor was also interested in sending UNISA faculty to this region to have them to gain more international exposure; AIT will be considered as a possible host.

Former AIT Extension, Program Director, Professor K. Harigopal, who is
currently President of K P R Educational Society, recently had a
discussion with AIT President Said Irandoust on various areas of
possible collaboration between AIT and initiatives in which Professor
Harigopal has been actively involved in India.

AIT faculty member Dr. Nitin Tripathi and AIT alumnus Mr. Anil K. Sravat, Vice President (Business development), PTD, Siemens Ltd., both alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), participated in a panel discussion on 'The 21st Century' aims to Educate and Develop Human Resource in Thailand'.

The event, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Thailand, was hosted by H.E. Miss Vijaya Latha Reddy, Ambassador of India and AIT Board of Trustee member, at her residence, on the invitation of Professor Dr. Chira Hongladarom, President of Chira Academy, Secretary General, Foundation for International Human Resource Development.

A journal article co-authored by Dr. Prabhat Kumar, a project staff working with Prof. Vilas M. Salokhe of Agricultural Systems & Engineering Field of Study, School of Environment, Resources and Development, has been among the top 20 articles downloaded in the last 12 months from the Journal of Applied Entomology published by Blackwell Publishing Inc.

Green Fins Slogan Contest

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of Thailand is inviting members of the AIT community to participate in the Green Fins Slogan Contest, which aimed to create awareness of the Green Fins program among tour and dive operators in the ten member countries of the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA), as well as the public at large, particularly tourists and diving enthusiasts whose practices affect the health of coral reefs.
