Lahore College for Women University to establish cooperation and linkage with Gender and Development Studies at AIT

As part of a move toward expanding and re-energizing the UNESCO network of Women's Universities, AIT's Gender and Development Studies is to establish a link with Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). Founded in 1922 in Lahore, Pakistan as Lahore College for Women, this institution that gained its university charter in 2002, has a mission to serve the female population of Pakistan and hence the nation through the dissemination of knowledge, the development of new knowledge, the preservation of knowledge.

Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, has been invited to serve as Chief Guest in the MoU signing ceremony between AIT and Pearl School of Business which will take place in New Delhi on 30 April 2007. Professor I.M. Pandey, Dean, School of Management will also be accompanying him to this event, which will see the launch of the Doctor of Business Administration DBA in India, by the Pearl School of Business in partnership with AIT. Representatives from the media and industry persons have also been invited to the event.

Jonkoping University, Sweden, plans to start two-stage master's degree program with AIT

Following the visit of Professor Roy Holmberg, Dean, School of Engineering, Jonkoping University to AIT on 6 March 2007, there was the keen interest from Jonkoping University to start two-stage programs at the master's level in partnership with AIT, targeting the August intake in 2008. Jonkoping University has appointed Professor Holmberg as the Chair of the Task Force to develop in consultation with AIT further modalities of its implementation.

On 20 April, 2007 Dr. Ir. Dedy S. Priatna, Deputy of BAPPENAS (National Development Planning Agency), Indonesia, accompanied by Dr. Avip Syaefullah, Mr. Dida Heryadi Salya, Mr. Yusuf Arby, Mr. Purwa Malaysianto, Ms. Meily Djohar, Dr. Intan Ahmad, Mr. Hari Nasiri Mochtar, Mr. Hariman Prakoso (Indonesian local consultant), Dr. Eichi Kawai from Asia SEED, and Ms. Sayaka Fukuda and Ms. Patcharee Basu from SOI Asia Project visited Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab), AIT. During their visit to Thailand from 21 - 24 April 2007, the delegation had also visited advanced universities and government projects which are involved in e-learning/distance education field.

An AIT delegation comprising Prof. A.T.M. Nurul Amin, Prof. Kazi Ahmed, Dr. Naveed Anwar, and Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Head, External Relations and Communications Office, visited Pakistan during 2-9 April 2007. In Islamabad, the delegation interviewed more than 100 applicants - who were applicants for the master's leading to doctoral degree program to be sponsored by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

SET welcomes new faculty

The Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RS&GIS;) FoS, School of Engineering and Technology, is pleased to welcome warmly Dr. Takahiro Endo, seconded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to AIT. Dr. Endo has been appointed as Visiting Faculty starting 18 April 2007.

Dr. Endo completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in biotechnology from Yamanashi University as well as a master's and doctoral degree in civil engineering from University of Tokyo, Japan.

Congratulations to Dr. Barbara Igel, faculty member from the School of Management, for having been invited to serve as the plenary speaker to address the Entrepreneurship Development Conference in Durban, South Africa, to be held from 19-22 June 2007. Dr. Igel's participation in the event which will be attended by 600-800 delegates from all over the world will be supported by the South African Government.
