Workshop seeks to build capacity in coastal mitigation

A training workshop on 'Capacity Building of Coastal Communities on Coastal Mitigation' was conducted at AIT on 16-19 January 2007 for participants from Ranong Province, Thailand.

Funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the U.S. Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System Program, the training workshop's goal was to make coastal communities, local government units and non-governmental organizations be proactive in coastal mitigation.

New head of Finance named

The Finance Office welcomes Ms. Patcharee Wangsakan (above), as a new head-Finance, starting 15 January 2007. Khun Patcharee brings with her extensive experience in financial accounting and management.

Mr. Avinash Patel, who had an opportunity to come back to AIT during its difficult time, will continue his work until 15 February 2007, on a full-time basis and then on a part-time basis as an advisor to president, head-Finance and faculty.

The Thai Immigration Bureau has recently informed that any foreigner (students, students' families and employees' servants) who fails to submit a 90-day report to the bureau will have to pay a 2,000 baht fine before getting the Thai visa extension or 5,000 baht on departure day.

New fixed assets policy announced

New fixed assets policy announced

According to President's Advisory Council resolution on 12 September 2006, the definition of the fixed assets will be changed to refer to purchased items costing a minimum of 15,000 baht and with two-year lifetime.

With effective from 1 January 2007, for any purchase of item costing less than 15,000 baht, a dean or office head can approve the purchase directly and charge to materials and supplies budget.
