Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra opened the 10th East Asia Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction (EASEC-10) at the InterContinental Hotel on 3 August 2006. In his speech to the 649 participants from 41 countries and the dignitaries present for the opening, the prime minister underscored the importance of construction in the everyday lives of people in the region.

HRH Princess Chulabhorn confers honorary degree on AIT alumnus

HRH Princess Chulabhorn on 27 July conferred an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from Kasetsart University on Mr. Chainarong Na Lamphun , the former AIT Alumni Association Mother Chapter president.

VP offers online open office hours

Prof. Ir. Khin Ni Ni Thein , vice president for external relations, informed the AIT community that she experienced a good communication during her 12 days at AIT and she thanked for allowing Dr. Folke Hjalmers and her to interview few of AIT faculty and staff.

Malaysian university delegation discusses joint work

A delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) visited AIT on 19 July 2006 . The visit will result in an agreement for collaboration in academic, research and other activities by the two institutions.

AIT grad named one of Indonesia 's best lecturers

AIT alumnus Andi, ST., M.Eng.,Ph.D was selected to be the second best winner in the Best Achievement Lecturers Award that was held by Indonesia 's National Education Department for Private Higher Institutions area VII.

Dr. Andi graduated from AIT in 1998 with a master's in engineering in Construction Engineering and Management.

AIT organizes 'Integrated Disaster Management' training

From 26 June to7 July 2006, AIT organized an intensive training program on 'Integrated Disaster Management.' Funded by the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand, the program provided education and training on key issues relating to disaster mitigation, with a focus on an integrated approach.

Conference Center serves special choice of cuisine

In addition to its array of ala carte and set menus, the AIT Conference Center now serves special choice of cuisine to suit the discriminating tastes of diners. The special menu for the day as well as the weekly set menu can be viewed at the AITCC Web site at http://intraweb.

Food concession spaces for lease

Some food concession spaces have vacated and are now available for lease. The specific locations of which are as follows: In the Cafeteria, two spaces are vacant, one for food and one for dessert. The Community School kiosk is also available.

New janitorial service hours announced

As part of the cost-saving measures, the number of outsourced janitorial staff working in the administration and academic areas has been reduced. The janitorial service hours are also being adjusted to improve the cleaning services and to allow janitors to have more time to perform their work.

AIT's energy consumption higher in first half of 2006 than 2005

Compared to the first half of 2005, energy consumption throughout AIT in the first half of 2006 is higher by 5 percent, or 1.08 million baht. January – June 2005 consumption was 19.84 million baht, which rose to 20.92 million baht during the same period this year.
