Farmers from 11 provinces of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam have reported near doubling of profit for paddy grown with the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) management practices. This was a result of higher yield coupled with reduced cost of seed, seedlings, and pesticides; along with better quality of food-grains, thereby commanding a higher market price.
The family of late Prof. Robert B. Banks has announced the creation of a new annual Master’s scholarship and a prize in memory of the late AIT President. Prof. Robert B. Banks was AIT’s third President, having served from 1977 to 1983.
Thirty-four applicants from nine countries have been selected for the award of HM King’s, HM Queen’s, and GMS Scholarships at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in the August 2017 session. This includes students from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan, The Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
The list of successful applicants from Thailand will be announced by the end of May.
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is among the founding signatories of the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi), a project initiated under the Eastern Economic Development Plan that focuses on creating a science hub in the ASEAN region. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MTR Academy and AIT on 4 April 2017.
