AIT Bet Won World Bank Competition Special Award
The project proposal entitled 'Volcanic Stones (Pumice) Marketing' of the Regional and Rural Development Planning of SERD won the prestigious 'People's Choice Award' during the Development Marketplace Competition organized by World Bank last December 2-4, 2003 in Washington DC, USA.

The project talks about a livelihood approach to the empowerment and socio-economic alleviation of the Indigenous People of Central Luzon, Philippines without further degrading the fragile environment of Mount Pinatubo.

AIT hosts international meet on electric supply

AIT hosts international meet on electric supply

The International Conference on Electric Supply Industry in Transition:
Issues and Prospects for Asia will be held at the Asian Institute of
Technology (AIT) on January 14-16, 2004.

The event, a major forum for exchange of information and discussion on
electric supply industry development in Asia, will be graced by Thailand's
vice minister for energy, Viset Choopiban, who will open the conference
and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand governor, Sitthiporn
Ratanopas, who will address the conference.

Nobel laureate Ramos-Horta honors AIT with lecture

His Excellency Mr. Jose Ramos-Horta (right), Timor-Leste's Senior Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Co-operation, will be the third lecturer in the Nobel Laureates and Eminent Persons Lecture Series hosted at the AIT by the International Peace Foundation in partnership with various organizations and institutions in Thailand.

The Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Pisit Chunhavachira (right)
as Human Resources Director effective Jan. 1, 2004. As the Human
Resources Director Mr. Pisit will oversee personnel management issues and will be
responsible for the operation of the Human Resources Office (HRO).

Mr. Pisit obtained his degrees from Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat
University, specializing in Human Resources Management and Marketing,
respectively.

Language Center

With the Language Center's direct service to the students in the Schools and with its clientele mainly internal, it is deemed fitting to make it independent from the AIT Extension, which is the outreach arm of the Institute. With immediate effect, the Language Center is now an Institute-wide unit under the Office of the Provost.

Vuong Hoai Nam
(M.Eng., in Computer Science)
Mr. Vuong, a Vietnamese citizen, obtained his B.Eng. degree, majoring in Computer
Science, from Hanoi University of Technology, Vietnam, in 2002. Mr. Vuong was
admitted to the AIT Master degree program in the field of Computer Science in
May 2002.
Thesis: "Detecting Possible Buffer Overflow Attacks in C Programs"

THE JAMES A. LINEN III MEMORIAL PRIZE
Morakot Apinyankul
(M.Sc., Information Management)
Miss Morakot, a Thai citizen, obtained her B.Sc. degree in Computer Science,
from Thammasat University, Thailand, in 2000. Miss Morakot was admitted to the
AIT Master degree program in the field of Information Management in May 2002.
Thesis: "Wireless and Bluetooth Technologies for Enabling Web Applications"
