The Executive Committee held a meeting on March 10, 2003. The meeting was attended by H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and chaired by H.E. Mr. Jan Axel Nordlander, Acting Chairman of the Executive Committee and Vice Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees.

2003 GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN SCHOLARSHIPS

For fiscal year of 2002/2003, the Government of Japan has remitted US$ 549,000 as its contribution to provide 21 Master's and three (3) Doctoral scholarships at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Doctoral Scholarships
Doctoral candidates should meet AIT's admission requirements as well as the following standards set by the Japanese Government:

(1) CGPA of 3.80 or above in Master's degree
(2) Excellent grade in Master's Thesis
(3) Top 15% of class or better
Doctoral candidates should apply in the Fields of Study (FoS), listed under *FoS, with Japanese seconded faculty and must be recommended by at least one Japanese faculty member.

RTG FELLOWSHIPS AT AIT

Under its Budgetary Support to AIT for FY 2003, the Royal Thai Government is providing THB 76,716,640 as RTG Fellowships for Master's and Doctoral students enrolled at the Asian Institute of Technology in its academic intakes for January 2003 and August 2003. For the August 2003 intake, 155 master's fellowships and at least six doctoral fellowships will be offered.

February 17-18, 2003: AIT delegation, led by Prof. Gothom Arya, Registrar, visited Jaffna University, Sri Lanka. The visit was certainly a landmark achievement in the already well established Cooperation Program between AIT, the Government of Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Ministries, National Universities, Research Centres, Private Sector Corporations and the Donor agencies.

In observance of the International Women?s Day held worldwide on March 8, 2003,
AIT celebrated the event with various gender awareness activities during the
International Women?s Week from March 3-8, 2003. The event was jointly
organized by AIT?s Gender and Development Studies Field of Study and the Office of Dean of Students and Community Affairs (DSCA). The theme of the International Women?s Day for AIT this year is ?Peace for everyone.
