A book on “Structural Cross-sections: Analysis and Design” authored by Dr. Naveed Anwar and Fawad A. Najam of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), has been published by Elsevier. Released on 11 November 2016, the book focuses on basic tools and computation methods for structural design and analysis of beam and column cross-sections.

AIT’s Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut has been honored with the prestigious Jonathan B. Postel Service Award for pioneering the spread of internet across Southeast Asia. Prof. Kanchana received the award at Seoul, South Korea, on 16 November 2016 on the occasion of the 97th Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Meeting.

Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Wildlife Enforcement Monitoring System (WEMS) in Africa and Asia. Signing the MoU on 16 November 2016, Bonaventure Ebayi, Director, Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF) stated that the adoption of WEMS in Asia is a positive development for wildlife conservation.

Prominent AIT Alumnus and Member of AIT’s Institute-Level Advisory Board (ILAB), Prof. Tissa H Illangasekare was honored with the 7th Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) at an award ceremony organized at the United Nations Headquarters on 2 November 2016. Presided by the UN Secretary General HE Ban Ki-moon and HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan, the event was witnessed by 150 top diplomats and UN officials.

Twenty-five companies participated in the Career Fair held on 2 November 2015 at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Six of the companies were participating in the bi-annual event for the first time.

A stellar demonstration of the research conducted by students at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is the bi-annual exhibition organized by the AIT Students’ Union, where students present their work using conference posters.

The inaugural meeting of the newly constituted AIT Institute-Level Advisory Board (ILAB), which met on 21 October 2016, deliberated on the vision and mission of the Institute, and discussed on how AIT should position itself in the years to come.

Students from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) had an opportunity to interact with senior leadership of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and participate in IPCC outreach activities during the two-day IPPC event organized at Bangkok on 14-15 October 2016.

AIT’s Dr. Thammarat Koottatep has been appointed as a Board of Trustee in the International Foundation for Science (IFS). IFS is a Stockholm-based research council that provides opportunities for young scientists to conduct research on biological and water resources in low-income countries.

From former faculty members based in the United States to alumni in Hong Kong; from former students based in Sri Lanka to professors based in Canada; from faculty members in Germany, Australia and Holland, to alumni in Vietnam, Philippines and Myanmar; from alumni in China and Pakistan to current students from Kenya; from a former AIT President in Ireland to the Ambassador of Cambodia — members of the diverse AIT community have joined in a global outpouring of emotions following the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
