SOM is holding a two-fold event on Saturday, 29 July. The first is a football tournament, starting at 9 a.m., to be played by eight teams. Mr Foellmer, MD of Bayer Thai, will present the trophy at 5:15 p.m.

The second is a presentation of WAP applications (browsing the Internet with mobile phone), starting at 6 p.m.

The schedule is as follows:

A. Welcome

The President welcomed Mr. Wanchai Sophonsakulrat, the newly elected International Staff Representative, to the meeting.

B. Review and Approval of the 4 July 2000 RPC Report

Members reviewed and approved the draft report of the 4 July 2000 RPC, which will incorporate comments and suggestions, made at the meeting.

The AIT community expresses profound sorrow and regret over the untimely passing away of our former Board Chairman, M L Birabhongse Kasemsri, Principal Private Secretary to His Majesty the King of Thailand, on 25 July 2000.

M L Birabhongse served as Chair of the AIT Board of Trustees from November 1995 to May 2000. His resignation for health reasons was announced at the Executive Committee of the Board meeting on 17 May, in a very moving statement in which he reflected upon his years of tenure at AIT, referring to the period as being both turbulent and challenging.

Dean Chongrak receives top academic honors

Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean of the School of Environment, Resources and Development of the Asian Institute of Technology, has been named recipient of two top academic honors, namely the Research Publication Award, presented by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), and the Outstanding Scientist Award, presented by the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology of Thailand, under the patronage of His Majesty the King.
