00.16 RTG GENERAL SUPPORT / LUMP SUM GRANT

Several proposals were put forward for the use of the RTG General Support / Lump Sum Grant (79.8 million Baht for FY 2000-2001), including: (i) to top up the partial scholarships in the form of fellowships, thus enhancing the revenue without increasing expenditures, and with the additional revenue compensating for the lost income tax reimbursement.

CONDOLENCE
The AIT Community extends deepest sympathy to the family of Prof. Thomas H. Evans, first Dean of the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering.

AIT WELCOMES NEW FACULTY

The School of Environment, Resources and Development and the Agriculture, Aquatic Systems and Engineering Program welcome Dr. Julie Macaranas as a post-doctoral Research Fellow and an Affiliated Faculty in the AARM field of study.

GRADUATION AWARDEES
AIT's 88th Graduation ceremony, held on April 21, brought the total number of alumni to 10,240. A total of 273 degrees were awarded (253 Master's Level, 11 at the Doctoral level and nine Diplomas).

THAILAND FOSTERS GREATER ROLE FOR AIT IN THE MEKONG REGION
H. E. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Foreign Minister of Thailand, proposed to the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) to cooperate with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to promote human resource development in the Mekong subregion.

WHO'S WHO IN THE ACADEMIC SENATE

At its first meeting on 23 February 2000, the Academic Senate, which serves as an advisory group to the Management on all academic matters (as stipulated in the Bye-Laws of the Board of Trustees), elected Prof. Gajendra Singh of the Agricultural and Aquatic Systems Engineering Program, SERD, as Chair, and Prof.

Technology and Job Fair

On 24 March the AIT's Dean of Students and Community Affairs Office (DSCA) organized the Technology and Job Fair. This event is a regular forum which is organized at least twice a year to bring representatives of the industry and private and government organizations closer to AIT community and build long- term partnerships.
