DR. DONGJOO PARK
New SCE Faculty Member

The School of Civil Engineering cordially welcome Dr. Dongjoo Park to the Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering Program as an Assistant Professor effective 3 April 2000.

Dr. Park holds a Master's Degree in City Planning, Transportation Planning and Engineering, from Seoul National University, Korea, in 1993, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering specializing on Transportation Systems Analysis and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) from Texas A&M; University, USA, in 1998.

Prior to joining SCE, he was an Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement, Center for Infrastructure Studies in Korea.

Following AIT's inquiries with the Asiaweek concerning their annual survey of Asian universities, Mr. Cesar Bacani, Senior Editor of the Asiaweek responsible for the survey explained that the survey for the year 2000 covers institutions that offer both graduate and undergraduate programs, and therefore, AIT is not included.

Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE)
On 20 March, 28 students in the ISE Program's 6th intake started their Talkbase course, which is being conducted by LTU with AITCV funding.

On 20-22 March, Maintenance Manufacturing, AITCV's first training high technology course, was conducted in Hanoi, and again on 23-25 March in Ho Chi Minh City.

I am pleased to inform the AIT community that Professor Young-Shik Chung, a Visiting Faculty at the School of Civil Engineering, is leaving AIT this April 2000. Prof. Chung would like to thank the Institute for the short time he spent in SCE with a personal donation of US$1,000 to the Arirang Fund.

AIT joins consortium of Thai universities to promote technology education

AIT is participating in a consortium of Thai universities in support of the Higher Education Development Project (HEDP). Established by the Thai Government with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the HEDP seeks to strengthen postgraduate education and research in cooperation with industry and the private sector.

Workshop

AIT WORKSHOP ON WEB-BASED COURSE DELIVERY
Over the next few years, AIT will make full use of Internet technologies in support of its core activity - the delivery of higher education to students and the region. This workshop is intended to enable faculty to contribute to efforts towards that goal.

Prof. Tawatchai Tingsanchali of the Water Resources Engineering and Management Program, School of Civil Engineering, has been nominated and elected by the ASCE (the American Society of Civil Engineers) as 'Fellow of ASCE, the highest category of membership in this prestigious body.

Strengthening Asian-German Relations

Under the theme 'Strengthening Asian-German Relations', the GTZ-AIT Cooperation Team will hold its second gathering on Friday, 31 March, from 17.00 - 20.00 hrs. in the SOM Building area. It will follow the pilot event of a luncheon hosted in December last year for AIT students and AIT graduates with German Scholarships.
