AIT to renew collaboration with Thailand’s Provincial Electricity Authority

AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai on 9 June 2015 led a small delegation of AIT officials on a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Bangkok, to congratulate its new Governor, Mr. Sermsakool Klaikaew, on his recent appointment. The AIT team was also welcomed by Chairman of the PEA Executive Board of Directors, Mr. Tawin Pliansri.

Asian Water Academy established at AIT

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has joined hands with seven other organizations to establish the Asian Water Academy (AWA), which aims to emerge as a knowledge hub and experience-sharing platform on water-related issues in Asia. As the first such academy in the region, AWA aims to be a leader on water issues within the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

In the aftermath of the Nepal Earthquake, Dr. Sangam Shrestha, Associate Professor, Water Engineering and Management (WEM), AIT School of Engineering and Technology, co-authored an article with Dr. Binaya Raj Shivakoti from the Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES) titled “Earthquake Reveals Need to Shake-up Water and Disaster Management.”

AIT staffer wins Marina van Damme award

A staff member of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Dang Anh Nguyet, has won the Marina van Damme award becoming the 13th woman to be honored by the University of Twente, The Netherlands. The award is named after Marina van Damme, who was the first female engineer to receive her doctorate from the University of Twente.

AIT students reach out to Nepal’s communication needs

While Nepal was grappling with the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, students from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) were among the first to reach and provide emergency communication services. As a part of the team of Télécoms Sans Frontière (TSF), AIT students rushed to Nepal on 28 April 2015, and immediately began conducting a needs assessment before launching emergency operations.
