  • 1991 Telecommunications and Manufacturing Systems Engineering admitted their first students.
  • 1991 The AIT Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology was awarded to the United Kingdom’s Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
  • 1991 HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the inauguration of the Computer Science Building.
  • 1992 The Institute presented the Gold Medal Award to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand in recognition of Her Majesty’s outstanding leadership in environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources.
  • 1993 The Swiss-AIT- Vietnam Management Development Program in Ho Chi Minh City was opened.
  • 1993 The Institute received a large grant from private donors in the form of the new Chalerm Prakiat Building.
  • 1994 AIT Center Vietnam was inaugurated, becoming the first international institute of higher learning to operate in the country. AITCV launched a diploma program in Industrial Systems Engineering.
  • 1995 AIT received the Asian Management Award for Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, for its contributions to human resources development and sustainable development in the region.
  • 1995 New programs were introduced in bioprocess technology and infrastructure planning and management.
  • 1996 The Mechatronics field of study was established.
  • 1996 A partnership established the joint Chulabhorn Research Institute / AIT program in Environmental Toxicology,Technology and Management.
  • 1997 AIT received a citation from the Danube Adria Association for Automation and Manufacturing International Vienna, for its contributions to the technical sciences and to international scientific cooperation.
  • 1997 HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the inauguration of the Asian Center for Research on Remote Sensing.
  • 1998 The Advance Agro Pulp and Paper Technology Building was inaugurated.
  • 1998 The Distributed Education Center was established.
  • 1999 HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the inauguration of the Geoinformatics Center.
  • 1999 AIT celebrated its 40th Anniversary with annual enrolment averaging 1,349 students and the alumni body consisting of some 9,828 members from 57 countries.
  • 2000 H.E. Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic, visited AIT. He was welcomed by Prof. Jean-Louis Armand and H.E. Dr. Arthit Ourairat, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Thailand.
  • 2000 ASIAWEEK ranked the School of Management (SOM) as No. 3 in Asia for Best Executive MBA and No. 4 for Best Full- Time Program.
  • 2000 AIT conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy on H.E. Dr. Abdurrahman Wahid, President of the Republic of Indonesia.
