  • 1984 Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn became AIT’s first Royal alumna when she receives her certificate of course completion from the Asian Regional remote Sensing Training Center.

  • 1986 The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is established.

  • 1987 The Institute presents its first Gold Medal to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand in recognition of His Majesty’s outstanding leadership in rural development.
  • 1987 AIT receives a special award from the United States Aid for International Development and the National Research Council of the United States, in recognition of significant contributions to science and technology over the past 25 years.
  • 1988 AIT was the site of the first email sent in Thailand. It developed the country’s first top level domain name “@ait.th”.
  • 1988 Opening of Ambient Laboratory and the Environmental Research Station
  • 1988 Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presides over the opening of the Agricultural and Food Engineering Building
  • 1989 At the 56th graduation, AIT presented the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
